Assistive Technology for Young Children

Funded by OSEP in January 2013, the Model Demonstration Coordination Center’s sixth cohort of model demonstration projects were assisting IDEA Part C and Part B preschool programs in implementing and evaluating models that promote and sustain promising practices for the effective use of assistive technology (AT) by infants, toddlers, and preschool children with disabilities and, as a result, improve their functional outcomes.

Features of these models include the following:

Methods to develop child-specific AT plans

Methods to develop or modify local polices for re-use of AT

Methods to modify local policies and procedures to facilitate the use of AT

Evidence-based AT professional development for providers with coaching
